James and Lily: a special love story
When we talk about destination marriage proposals it’s important to choose a spectacular location but also a meaningful one.
One of the most important parts of planning your marriage proposal is the location that you choose.
When James got in touch with us he told us that his girlfriend’s favourite country in the world is Italy and he wanted to surprise her with a trip and a wedding proposal in Florence.
In fact, he couldn’t choose a better place to surprise Lily. She studied abroad in Florence during university for eight months and fondly remembers her time in Tuscany.
James was excited to plan a special wedding proposal and he asked us to help him with it. He was looking for the most romantic and intimate spots in Florence and he also wanted to have photos and video footage of the proposal, to cherish the memory forever.
We started to look for the ideal proposal spot and came up with a few places that could be perfect for James and Lily. In the end, he chose a rooftop restaurant with a historical and charming vibe and breathtaking views over the city and its surroundings.

A rooftop restaurant is ideal for intimate proposals as it sets a very relaxed and quiet atmosphere, away from the crowds Florence is known for. Most of them are open from morning to midnight, offering amazing options for breakfasts, lunches, afternoon cocktails and romantic dinners.

A surprise romantic rooftop proposal in Florence
When James and Lily came all the way from Oxford to Florence, she thought it was just for their long desired couple vacation. She had no idea of what we were planning behind her back!
James told Lily he had booked a table for an early afternoon cocktail at a rooftop restaurant right in the heart of Florence.
A quick elevator ride up and a short walk through the rooftop restaurant, he led her out onto the terrace where the proposal was about to happen.
Rose petals were scattered on the ground, there were lots of fresh flowers, flameless candles and a calligraphy wooden sign with a poem from their favourite Romantic poet, John Keats.
After Lily’s initial shock settled, James took her hand and said “I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” He got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. She began to cry tears of joy and excitement and finally said yes.
She later described it as the most emotional experience of her life.
The staff from the restaurant came out, congratulated the beautiful couple and popped the champagne.
The couple celebrated with a nice aperitif while enjoying panoramic views over Florence and its surroundings.
James, however, had still one more surprise for his fiancée: he had planned an engagement photoshoot around Florence.
The sun was setting and the climate was perfect. Our photographer portrayed the British lovebirds in some of the most fascinating spots in town. They walked through the streets of the historic centre, among Renaissance treasures and spectacular backgrounds. It was also the perfect opportunity to discover some hidden wonders of the Tuscan capital. The photo shoot ended in Piazzale Michelangelo where the newly engaged couple took some time to appreciate the breathtaking view over Florence.
