Palazzo Comunale, San Gimignano’s town hall, sits next to the cathedral in the Piazza del Duomo. It is home to the San Gimignano Civic Museum headquarters. On the first floor, you will find the Sala del Consiglio (Council Chamber), exhibiting a famous 13th fresco depicting tournaments of knights and hunting scenes. The second floor is the location of the Chamber of the Podestà, frescoed with unique narrations presenting love scenes, among other depictions.

San Gimignano, often referred to as the “Town of Fine Towers,” stands out as one of Tuscany’s most beloved towns, celebrated for its remarkably preserved medieval structures and distinctive skyline. This UNESCO World Heritage Site provides a window into the area’s fascinating historical heritage.
Let’s have a look at how easy it can be to organize a legal wedding in San Gimignano.

The Town Hall of San Gimignanois open every day, from Monday to Saturday:
Fromt the 1st April to the 30th September from 09.30 to 14.00; and from the 1st October to 31st of March from 11:00 to 14:00. Afternoon slots are available upon request.

This room is the historical space dedicated by the Municipality of San Gimignano to civil weddings.
In this room on May 7, 1300, Dante Alighieri arrived as the ambassador for the Guelph league. Dante made his speech in the room that for this reason it is dedicated to him. Looking up, he saw the same beautiful paintings depicting the tournaments of knights and hunting scenes by Azzo di Masetto that we can still admire.

The courtyard was built in 1323 and is decorated with frescoes or sculpted coats of arms and, in the center, a cistern arranged in 1361.
Among the frescoes is a Sant’Ivo that makes justice of Sodom, a Madonna with two saints by an unidentified Sienese painter of the second half of the fourteenth century, and a Justice that tramples on the lie monochrome of Vincenzo Tamagni (sixteenth century).
From here starts the external staircase for the entrance to the premises of the museum, covered by a canopy supported by brick columns.
