Many of us have witnessed a proposal in a restaurant in movies or tv shows with the ring maybe hidden in a dessert or a flute of champagne.
It may sound a bit old-fashioned or cliché, but many girls dream of getting proposed over a romantic meal with a nice view.
When he got in touch with us he told us that he and Mindy had always dreamed of visiting Italy. They both worked in the food industry and knew Tuscany had so much to offer to foodies.
Dev wanted to turn this vacation into the most memorable trip of their lives. He wanted to create the perfect scenario for a romantic and intimate proposal with a nice view but needed some input and assistance from our side. Val d’Orcia is full of romantic restaurants that are perfect for marriage proposals.
After careful research, we found the perfect spot: a lovely restaurant with a beautiful terrace and garden which we hired for an exclusive use to make the proposal even more special and private.
We sat down with the chef and general manager to discuss the menu and make sure it included Dev and Mindy’s favourite meals.
To add the final touch, we hired a violinist to serenade the couple and a photographer to capture every moment of love.
On the day of the proposal, Dev and Mindy visited two of the prettiest towns in Val D’Orcia: Montalcino and Piena.
Montalcino is a stunning hilltop town enclosed by massive walls dating back to the 13th century. It’s small but there’s a lot to see. Its majestic castle, enchanting narrow lanes and the perfectly preserved buildings make it a fairytale place that seems to be frozen in time. Climbing up to the top allows one to enjoy a breathtaking view of Val d’Orcia with its typical cypress trees, olive groves and vineyards.
Pienza is a very small, quiet, picturesque town. A UNESCO world heritage site with delightful narrow cobbled stone streets leading to pretty piazzas, ancient buildings and lovely shops. You can’t help but fall in love with it.
If Montalcino is famous for one of the world’s finest wines, the Brunello di Montalcino, Pienza is famous for the pecorino di Pienza, a hard sheep’s milk cheese.
After sunset, the couple arrived at the restaurant we had chosen for the big moment. The hostess led them to their private table in the garden and Mindy was amazed by the view. As dinner went by, you could see that Dev looked a bit nervous, but who could blame him? Mindy, on the other hand, thought it was a wonderful dinner and kept thanking Dev for choosing that restaurant but had no idea what was about to happen next.
As Dev excused himself to go to the bathroom, the hostess went around the table, placed a dessert menu and started explaining the various options to Mindy. As she got to the end of the list, she said “Finally, there’s one special option for you…”, then turned the menu to reveal just beneath the list of desserts, the question “Mindy, will you marry me?”. As she sat there completely in shock, watching the hostess stepping aside, Dev walked up from behind her, to her right, carrying a bouquet of tulips, Mindy’s favourites, and a ring box. Mindy’s face turned red, then wet with tears. Dev said how much he loved her. He explained how she is his best friend and how he loves waking up next to her every morning, and he was ready to take the next step. He got down on one knee and said, “Will you do me the honor of being my wife?” Mindy said yes in tears and he slipped the ring on her finger, stood up, and they hugged and kissed. At this point, the violinist came out and started playing their song. Then Dev pointed to the photographer that we had hired, who was hidden, taking pictures and capturing the entire proposal!
Mindy was over the moon and the couple slow danced under the stars looking utterly and completely in love.
